Heating Perchs?

Have you guys used heating perchs for your ETBs or ATBs? I'm about to switch my ETB to a bigger cage, next month, and i like the heating perch concept... Therefore, i should make sure of what size of perch i should use, cause i've always been using 1/2 inch large tubes and now my ETB seems to be 2/3 of an inch wide and nearly 6 months old... What do you guys suggest? What perch size should i choose and how do i set this hole thing up ( thermostat, heat tape and all )??? I've always dealt with pet shop heat pads before, ill keep one at the bottom but i cant stuck one in the PVC ! Also, what size of Rubber-maids should i put it in? It is in a 20'' long X 15'' large X 8'' height set vertically ( which ends up like a 15'' long X 8'' large X 20'' height ). Help is always very appreciated

phil.

Phil,

I would not bother going through all the time and effort to give your emerald a heated perch. It is not a natural way to provide heat for your animal. Go with flexwatt underneath the rubbermaid.. That's how I heat all my babies and if you dial it in right with a reostat you can acheive temps in the low to mid 80s..

I have seen pics and how-to methods on wiring up heated perches and have also seen discussion on it as well and the concensus is, that it is a whole lot of work and monkeying around for a whole lot of nothing..

Heres a pretty decent link with some great caging options.

I ordered a radiant heat panel for my newest enclosure and am excited to see how it works! I'll keep you posted.

EDIT: oops! Forgot the link, LOL. Here it is: http://www.chondroweb.com/Caging.htm
