Corncob (bed o cobs) for BCI substrate?

Why have I heard ground corncob to be a bad substrate to use for reptiles? I used it all the time with a Ball python I had years back who suffered from no R.I. or other disorders.
I have now inherited a very sick BCI who was on Aspen chips the first thing I did upon getting him home was remove the chips and thouroughly scrub his cage. and put in the newspaper.
I would like to use a good natural substrate as he likes to move the stuff around.
Now he is on meds and hopefully will feel good again soon.
Thanks

I would continue with aspen shavings I have never used corn cob But From what I have heard it can cause very bad intestinal blockages if ingested. Its more of a worry with lizards since they dive at there crix and usually will get something in there mouth. with a snake they wont get any substrate in ther mouth if you feed frozen thawed food on a folded piece of paper towel but with live I wouldnt want to risk it

Cob can cause impaction as Bryce said. I have found mildew to form too easily on aspen. I use Cypress mulch.

Country:
Corn cob is unsuitable substrate to house pretty well all snakes on IMHO. Not only can it cause serious problems if ingested, but it also molds very easy, and cannot be misted at all.

I too feel cypress is the way to go where some humidity is required.
