Didn't realize you were in Long Island as well. Isn't levitown surrounded by forests? Shouldn't need to do much sterilizing. I'd only worry if you live in a dirty area(city, polluted lakes, swamps...etc). Plus the winter kills off most things in fallen wood anyways.

long island? i live in pa. levittown pa. 20-30 minutes from ne philly. its all city and suburbs around here.
If mine get to dirty I just cut new one off the trees. The forest has an endless free supply. Never had a bug problem yet.
im honestly a clean freak. the thought of bugs freak me out. & also my grandfather has leukemia so he has a compromised immune system. i wouldn't want to run the risk of bringing in bugs, and him ending up in the hospital.
