Re: Corn Snake Fans MUST See This!!
i'm sure years from now breeders will try all sorts of things with Palmetto's. For now though, just as it is, is stunning, don't you think??
If the title "Patriarch Palmetto" means what I think it does, then that snake pictured is the big Pappa, who was captured from the wild as an adult. The breeder who now owns him (I believe it's Don Soddenburg?) paid an undisclosed 6 figures to the person who captured him.
I'm not sure if last season or this coming one is the first actual Palmetto's for sale to the public, either way it is a very new project, so will probably be many years before the prices come down.

Re: Corn Snake Fans MUST See This!!
I love my corns but I don't actually like the Palmetto that much!
I do like the Tessera though and they have come down loads in price and will continue to do so seeing as everyone will be breeding them in a few years lol That's good though, means I can get one
I'm not normally a fan of pied snakes either but I do like the pied bloodreds.

GORGEOUS corn snake- I usually don't go for corns, but that is smokin' hot. However, I still would not pay $4k for it.

I'm glad you called me on my statement, as it is completely false! I thought I was remembering correctly, but I was actually remembering statements made by a certain breeder regarding Palmettos (not selling for a few years, only a few at a time, and $4000); said breeder has no statement regarding Tessera snakes on his website as of now.
Again, good catch...s'pose I owe you a Palmetto now, huh?

LOL I was reading this conversation and thinking that's exactly what I remembered the palmetto guy saying.... and sure enough that's where you got it from. Haha. Funny how our brains mix things up like that.
I think it's crazy he wan't 4k and ISNT selling many, and only females, etc, because for people to make their money back they WILL have to flood the market. Buy a female for 4K, can't turn a profit for a minimum of 6 years... yeah... stupid idea if you ask me. I think we can expect to see a flood of them in 9 years when the first buyers have loads of pairs set up

I think he probably just doesn't have too many right now, give him a year or two until he can establish a sizeable breeding population and I'm sure he'll be selling loads to make as much money as possible before other breeders begin to flood the market with them.

No he purposely only is making and selling so many, there's an article he wrote about what he's doing. He's only selling females so people can't take a male knock up loads of females. :S Quite an investment for anyone interested in getting this morph going.

He said that he would not sell males until 2015 at least, so maybe he will keep them and grow them. Not sure.
