Something else to consider - it doesn't say that the snake took her head first. If they attempted to swallow a human feet first, they could very easily get a person down. At the very least, they could easily get as far as the waist.

Actually yes, it does say head first, and I could beleive it after seeing some of the meals my snakes have eaten in comparison to their size. My friend's mom is under 5 feet, and some where in the neighbourhood of 80-90 pounds. With some of the larger snakes i've seen she could be eaten...

Just because our shoulders are of a larger mass across than most "normal prey" doesn't mean that by constricting and crushing the woman the snake didn't break the collarbones and snap the shoulders into an easy position for consuming. I'm not saying it's true, but definately not impossible.

Constrictors do not seek to crush. They wish to kill expending as little energy as possible. They lightly tighten each time the prey exhales until such time the prey can no longer inhale. Then they prey suffocates. I have never seen bones broken in constriction, and I am one of the people who has seen constriction from the inside. =) I don’t think the snake could or would have broken her into a more bite size meal.

It could be possible if she was a very tiny woman (as many are in that area of the world) and if her shoulders were folded forward. It would have to have been a hefty 10 footer though.

I beleive it, like some people said, in that country they are not large people. Some may get tall but not women. a 5 foot tall person at about 80 pounds could be a snake meal. I think you are all fooling yourselves when you think large snakes can't eat us because of our shoulders. Maybe a good 6'5" man doesn't have anything to worry about but I know for a fact that I would be an easy snake meal because of the width of my shoulders being abnormally narrow. Not to mention your shoulders WILL fold together to be eaten...

Just looks like more of that sensationalism to me.

1. They can't seem to decide who was with her--a friend or her husband

2. The "companion" tried to make the snake let go by yelling at it. (Don't these people live in an area where these snakes are common? Don't they know ways to get a snake off if it is constribting--or even bring a knife or something???)

The whole thing stinks of more snake-o-phobe reporting, to me.

My 10-foot Burmese is still having difficulty with his 5-lb. rabbits!

think of a ten foot snakes head.. I highly HIGHLY doubt it could take a 40 pound child, none the less an adult woman even if she was a small adult woman.

It probably happend, and the snake was misrepresented, it was probably more around the 20' mark.

i thinks it a load of bs. hopefuly it wasen;t true and the people never beat the snake ot death with iron rods man if they did i would love to it right back to them and tie them down and beath them to death and see how they like it violence against snakes should be punished by death if a human kills a ahuman how come they get like lifetime in a jail sometimes not even or get the injection and yet if an animal gets killed the person either gets away with it or a little fine or maybe 2-3 years tops in prison what wrong with the goverment man animlas should be treated equally . hopefully one day a new law will be passed when an animal is abused or killed a person pays with his life or a long time in jail not out of his wallet.
