Aside from the considerations of potential danger to the predator, either from direct attack or parasites, or concern for the feelings of the prey, frozen is simply much easier and more convenient to work with. If the snake doesn't take the food immediately it can be left overnight w/out any worries, not something I'd even consider doing with live rodents.
I remember back in college someone tried feeding a green anole to a garter snake. The anole actually attacked the garter snake, biting its head and drawing a couple drops of blood.
