From the pictures, it doesn't look like scale rot.
Scale rot can happen when the snakes are kept on moist substrate. The first signs are a pink belly, eventually parts of the belly scales actually "rot away".
While newspaper and paper towels have their advantages, humidity and spilled water dishes can create a problem.
