Pricing baby boas?

So I was just wondering how an individual goes about pricing their clutch of boas. I have a couple of pairs I'm going to try in the future and I realize prices will most likely be different then, but what's the best way to decide something like that?

Depends on the genetics, but if/when you have babies to sell just look at what similar types online are going for.

Re: Pricing baby boas?

I plan on pairing my paradigm female with my sharp snow and a little further down the line my hytec het sharp albino with my other sharp snow male. So technically I should have a good variety. That's what I assumed, just comparing others out there. Some of the ones I found seemed a bit pricey and wasn't sure if that was the price I should go for not being a well known breeder and all. Thanks for the response!

Re: Pricing baby boas?

It's more about the quality of the animals than who's selling them. Quality is quality, and should be priced as such.

I wish this was true. However in my experience, the more well known breeders not only ask for more, but get it. In a way it's like name brand things. Mercedes vs a Ford or a Nissan vs Kia. Sad but true. In the gecko world I have bought some 'name brand' geckos and paid the price, but I have also gotten a few unknown local breeders who had amazing geckos for a fraction of the price.

I guess it depends on the type of animal then. I have not seen it go this way in the carpet python world. Sometimes it's the big name breeders that sell really nice animals for less, and "no-name" breeders that sell for more. I guess with big name breeders, their animals tend to sell faster because people want to buy from someone they trust..but those without much a reputation still end up selling their animals for a good price when the ads are left up long enough.

Well I suppose it's something I will find out during my journey and play it by ear! Everyone starts out somewhere.

In my experience, both breeder and animal make a difference. And that is the way it should be: a breeder who offers more should be rewarded with more. Otherwise, there is no incentive to offer top service and extras such as detailed care records and family trees.

I agree, though when I said quality part of what I meant was the available lineage information behind the animal.
