I haven't nor do I plant on it. I'll stick with rodents and chicks, but I don't know if it's bad or not to feed finches, provided they aren't wild.

umm that depends... you dont want to use finches just for sport do you? I mean, you dont just want to see your carpet hunt down somethin that flies... possibly running a betting ring in your basement?

or have you tried everything else and nothing works? first thing i'd say in that case is you probably havnt tried everything. there's probably other alternatives to using finches.

put me down for $20 on the python in the first round

Mmmm... not much to fowl as for food wise and some really runny smelly poops too.....

And the additional risk of salmanella cotamination.
I am not sure what it is called, but chickens sometimes carry a bacteria that is harmful to reptiles and I am not sure if the finches or other fowl carry it as well.

Put my bet on the finch in the second round.
(Wings of fury attack ROCKS!!!)

Reason for asking was someone on a different forum suggested that the smell of the finch would encourage the snake to eat, as it had worked with his olive python.
Hey Omen, you know something about finches that I dont? Second round knockout?
Hey ZOe, at what age did you start feeding chicks?
Thanks all.

I don't feed chicks myself, but I know some do for variety.

I had a female Jungle that only liked chicks...I got them from rodentpro. Didn't see any difference in poop consistancy and it all stinks. She now takes rats though.

The only differance I know of with feeding chicks over mice or rats is that chicks have a higher fat content and I was told because of this that they should only be fed occasionally if you have to at all.

you could have the finch around and that may stimulate the snake causing him/her to go hunting for it. maybe that'll be enough to convince him/her that the rat is a nice alternative when it cant find the finch.
