Haha, I have a feeling I'd wind up taking care of it if you did. Google "croc monitor bite" and see how much you want them after that.

I would totally love a croc if they didn't get MASSIVE, I would like something similar but smaller.

Re: One AWESOME Croc Moniotr (Varanus Salvodorii)

I've been informed (I'm still a little skeptical about it though) that Croc Monitors can reach lengths greater than Komodo Dragons. That would be 10+ feet.

I was also told there are "eye witness accounts" of a "19 foot" Croc Monitor.... IMO that particular report is about as reliable as the 1000lb 49 ft python from indonesia (fyi it turned out to be right around 21ft...)

Croc Monitors will be forever on my fantasy list. Even Tegus, Savs and Black Throats will be forever on my fantasy list. The maintenance is just way too high for the amount of time that I have, however I would peobably get a monitor before I get any other type of lizard.

Re: One AWESOME Croc Moniotr (Varanus Salvodorii)

Not that Im saying its not true, but if you can substantiate a 10 foot croc monitor it would be the biggest on record, ever! Which would be awesome. Around 8 foot is the largest one measured reliably. They are considered the longest monitor, though not the largest. The reason being that they are mostly tail. They are also considered the smartest monitor

Re: One AWESOME Croc Moniotr (Varanus Salvodorii)

I'll put some pics up later jarich. I assume you are basing off mark bayless records. Sam sweet says he has a male that is near 10ft (he doesn't exagrate much) I dont have pics of that croc though. Tigerhomes has a large one claiming to be 10ft plus but looks 9ft to me (could be 10 now). Ill track it down but a zoo was claiming 10ft. Busch gardens in Florida has one close to 9ft or a touch over (Komodo dragon beside it for reference if anyone goes). There is a pic of monster I ran across recently that shocked me. Someone needs to go check sizes again because there are monsters growing out there.

Re: One AWESOME Croc Moniotr (Varanus Salvodorii)

Ya, Im just going off of researched articles, nothing more than that (ya you called the Mark Bayless records). It always takes some time between real life and research papers so Im guessing in about 5 years there will be a record of it somewhere. Sam is definitely a reliable source! Man, Id love to own one of those guys. I can only imagine what its like to work with a 10 foot monitor that smart. Super jealous

Re: One AWESOME Croc Moniotr (Varanus Salvodorii)

I havent seen Sam around in while but he said he had a monster croc that dwarfed his two cb croc monitors which were over 7ft. Anyways here are a few pics of some monsters floating around. Some of these are over 3 years old so they have surely grown some.
First two are off Vincent Fransico facebook (prehistoric pets)

Jody Pieper 8ft4in croc

San diego zoo (claims over 9ft but probably I think its still slightly below 9'-weighed around 50lbs)

St. Loius Zoo (looks a little over 8' maybe mid 8s')

Tigerhomes el diablo (claims over 10ft 60lbs- close to 9' for sure maybe a tad over but this is 5 yrs old)

NERDs black croc thats over 8
