Re: Pictures

Beautiful animals, you have a nice collection. You'll have to keep us updated about those eggs you have too. I don't think I've ever seen Jeweled Lacertas that pretty before.

thank you, like I said that one is my male but my female is nicely coloured as well in fact they confused her with a juvenile male at first I should just take a pic of her lol

I dont know whats going on with the eggs she laid them while we were on vacation so I didnt get to them until they had been laid for a while I know one in viable for sure the other 11... I'll have to see I guess I'm incubating them all anyways and keeping an eye on them

I hadn't either until I was at the reptile supplier buying crickets for Rocky and I saw Sonic, I went home without him but I was in love, I went back 2 weeks later and bought him then it was a year before that store carried another lacerta and I knew she was a female when I looked at her and after debating with my husband and the store manager and a month of seeing her in her tank at the store every week without anyone even interested (shes feisty) I couldn't bear it and bought her. Especially since I knew they were colonial and lived in pairs in the wild. All the bites are worth it

Re: Pictures

I will have to do some research. I was looking into Ackies but she almost grabs my eye more... I have a few months to decide. What is the care like for them if you don't mind me asking( cage size, heat, humidity, food) I googled a bit but found a few conflicting things.

Re: Pictures

There definitely isn't much information and I know what you mean about conflicting reports with my male there was a lot of trial and error but this is what I know and this is what has worked for me.

diet:they are completely carnivorous they eat everything and anything meat. I have mine on a staple diet of crickets (we dust with calcium a couple times a week, and multivitimin as well) but they also eat silk worms, horned worms, pinkies, meal worms, supers, and for a treat i give them boiled chicken breast (little pieces and never more than twice a month) they are also known to eat some sweet berries but they're mostly meat eaters. and they are voracious mine will accept food every day

Temperament and Handling: They're a bit more skittish than beardies they can be tamed but it takes a lot of handling, and you will get bit. but with frequent handling they are ok with being held. They are ridiculously fast and very active during the day a lot of fun to watch

Habitat and Humidity: they are not truly terrestrial and not truly arboreal they like stuff to climb on I have vines and ledges but they also love to burrow so I have about 4 inches of sand at one end. They require a decent size water dish since not only will they drink out of it they will also soak themselves we mist them depending on the temperature it is outside during the winter I tend to mist them once a day since the summers in Toronto are fairly humid so during the summer I mist every other day ad I havent had any shedding or impaction issues in terms of size you can keep a solitary adult in a 35-40gal I keep my pair in a 55gal with multiple hides and they seem to do well, I have had no aggression problems with them being housed together all year but that is because I keep them very VERY well fed and if we're going to be gone a week I separate them since hungry males will kill and eat a female for heating in the 55gal i use a 150watt sun glow in the 35-40gal I use a 75-100watt sunglow the temp at the hot side should be around 100 with the cool side dipping to around 80 no UV bulb or night light is necessary

Im currently learning the finer points of breeding she laid 12 eggs

like I said this is what I do... if you find a reputable source that conflicts, you have to use your discretion
