Hello everyone ^^
I just joined the forums today after seeing this site several times and finding the advice on it to be awesome. I own a Colombian Red Tailed Boa which is around 5ft give or take a few inches. I've only had him since August of '09 but so far he's doing pretty well aside from a rat attack (which luckily he survived due to the help of a vet close by ^^) and mites (which he had when he was in the pet store). I got him from a friend of mine and he is my first snake I've ever owned so I'm trying to get lots of information on boas of his type (which I've gotten a good bit of information already on ^^). He's a lovely snake and loves people a lot. One thing he is picky about though, is that he will not eat dead prey(I've seen him go nose to nose with the little buggers to see if they are breathing).
I'd love to hear any tips you have for me with raising him so just post on this thread or pm me. Though, I have already gotten talked to about being a bad snake owner about the rat attack, so obviously I know that fact already ^^
Thank you
You are not the only one on here that live feeds so wouldnt expect too much backlash! If you live feed these things can happen i guess. Lucky ofr us we feed f/t so no issues with food attacking the snakes!!
Hope you like it here and piccies would be great!!!

hello and welcome,if your snake will only eat live then it is what it is.at the end of the day its got to eat.its not like your one of those idiots on you tube doing it for fun.i have found all the folk on this forum to be fair and decent,so you'll have like it here. personally i'm thankfull that all of mine eat frozen thawed food items.i have tried live feeding with a slow starter.it was only rat pups and multi mammot pups so the snake was in no real danger.it did not stop me flapping every time i did it.look forward to seeing some pic's of your boa.
cheers shaun

my boa was the same way only ate live prey but i got it to eat PF by just using tongs and holding the rat by the tail and dangling it, and when the snake bit the rat i would pull on the tail from side to side a little bit, like it was giving up a fight for a few seconds, may work for you as well.
welcome to the forum as well, its really good here, you will enjoy it
and we love pics ....
