Buying a corn from petco (im new to snakes, looking to buy my first)

As I said, I am looking to buy my FIRST snake. Its going to be a corn, cause thats all I can afford. I'm new here and so far I am loving the community. Ok, now onto the topic. What should I look for when buying a snake from a petshop? What do I need once I get a snake? Whats the rarity of some snakes?

well firstly welcome to the forum! if you haven't kept reptiles first i would advise you to do some research as you question should read what do i need BEFORE i get a snake! Go on the internet if you can and there is a wealth of breeders and people that will give you all the advice you need to start in the hobby! Petshops that arent specialised in reptile might not be the best place to start(depends on the knowledge of the owners in question) Good look in getting started though there are loads of people on here that can start you off if its advice you want and the snakes you could probably purchase from them too! Good luck let us know how you go on best regards Ian!

Yep welcome and as mentioned research caresheets.. Google will pop up more than you would ever care to know about any breed of snake or animal.
Make sure you know as much as you can then ask the shop folks questions if they dont know the answer to simple questions I start to worry a little. Also a few things I look for are bumps or lumps on the snakes, other than a descended belly if they recently ate. I check for mites small black dots that walk around (look close). I look for sores and tail kinks. Also I check the snakes breathing to make sure there is no popping sound a sign of a Respitory Infection. Those are just a few things I check but you should be able to find most of what you need to know online.

Your best bet to start off right is to buy "The Cornsnake Manual" by Bill & Kathy Love. Should be available at the petstore & if not online. Should cost around $10 maybe more if it has to be shipped. Get it & read it & it will answer all the questions you will ever have in reguards to Cornsnakes. Once thats been done you are fully ready to get one, Mark
