Exclamation Milk Snake Feeding

Hello, It has arisen me that maybe its time to change to fuzzy mice or feed my milk snake 2 Pinkies once every 4 days.

He/She is 5 month's old now and is getting a Pinkie every 4 days, Everything is fine, No problems eating, ever. While feeding him today, he went on a (as you would say) feeding frenzy. I know this is normal, but its the first time its happened in the month i have had him, He was striking for m hand at the glass and the wood i was putting back into the vivarium.

So like i said, Should I move to 2 Pinkies each sitting (and/or even extend the days to 5 instead of 4) Or Change him to Fuzzie mice (And/or change to 5 instead of 4) or just leave how he is, and if so, When is a good time to change.

Please Reply, Much Appreciated, As i never really get a reply. Please Help, If you can't, you could even give me some websites with useful tips on feeding the milk snakes. Thank you, Scott

Couple questions first:

What kind of milk snake do you have?

Second, how big is it now?

The size of prey is directly related to how big your snake is. Snakes should be fed items that are the size of the thickest part of their body, or slightly larger. Therefore, it should be pretty easy to see if it's time to bump up a size.

That said, I have a honduran who's just over a year old. When he was about 5 months, I started feeding him 2 pinks per meal because he seemed to be between sizes at that time. However, I was only feeding him once a week, not every 4 days like you are.

If your snake isn't a honduran, he may be on pinks longer than mine was as most other milks are smaller snakes.

HTH.

I think and i am sure that a lot of people would agree with me that you are feeding to much. I feed all of my colubrids once a week with the appropriate sized meal. If your snake can take two pinkies then it is time to switch it up to fuzzies. As soon as it can take two fuzzies then move up to hoppers and so on. As far as websites you could try www.cornutpia.com . They are well known and have a lot of good info.
I hope this is some help.

Awrite thanx. Well ill stick with a pinkie just now. You make me sound so stupid. Over feeding? Serously. hes about a foot and a half, and a bit thicker then a pencil. The pinkie isn't as visible as it used to be. And for my Milksnake, He/She is a Nelsons. Heres a picture of size difference.

I did not mean it like that! I was trying to give you some helpful advice. As far as the size of prey (judgeing by the size of your pic) I personally would definetly go to fuzzies if not hoppers. Your snake is big enough to take these items. By the way that is a nice looking snake!
