I got an unsexed bull snake yearling, and I'd like to take a guess at the sex. I am not a breeder, so I can afford to be wrong...it would just help with the naming. Can you tell by the tail scale count? Anyone have cloaca/tail pics of sexed bull/gopher snakes to share?
If you can post pics from the side and from below that include the vent and the tail it should be possible to give a decent guess for a yearling. They are virtually the same as cornsnakes and not as obvious as cal kings, based on my experience. The males will have quite a bit thicker tail at the base and the tail will be quite a bit longer than a female whose tail will be shorter and taper quickly. Sorry I don't have any good pics to share,
I'll try to get a good picture, but I dont have a digicam, so it'll take me a little longer to get film developed and scan it He/she is a bit nervous still, so it might be a bit before I get the shot too.
