Feeding & Handling Corns

Is it possible to overfeed a cornor do they know their limits. Also can you handle them to much? My daughter is in love with Eleanor and wants to handle her constantly. I won't let her, giving her a chance to settle in and get use to her new digs,but this excuse will wear thin real soon.

I think it's quite possible to overfeed a corn, those things would eat until they burst! How big/old is the snake in question? The most frequent I would feed a very young corn is once every 4 days, at around a month of age slow it down to once every 5, at 6 months once every 6 days, as yearlings every 7, and as adults every 7-14 days depending on the individual snake.

About the snake settling in, after a few solid meals and you'll have to let your daughter handle it lol. No more than once a day and not for 2 days after meals.

I would recommend you leave the snake settle in for about a week befor trying to handle the snake, as it will need to get used to its new surroundings.

i don't hold my corns for at least 4 days after feeding. (just to be on the safe side). i have had one of my corns regurgitate on the 3 day after i let a friend hold it.

Corns are so different !! Mine have all been fine with gentle handling after a 36 hour wait after feeding (I feed at night after the kids go to bed, no handling the next day, the following morning briefly & gently). No regurgitations at all. My kids have them out every day other then that & sometimes more then once (especially if we have company). My son is 3 & they are his pride & joy; along with his dog !!

Darlene is absolutely right... you get 3 corns, you get 3 DIFFERENT corns. My corns will not overfeed. They know when they are done. As for handling, I have a rule at my house - once per day tops, and no less than 3 days after feeding. After the snake (not just the corns but my kenyan and constrictor as well) has been handled and put back once, we leave them alone until the next day.

I agree with Darlene, all five of mine are different. I have one that will NOT eat any more often than three weeks, and one that wants to eat every four days. If he's not fed on day four, he constantly wanders the cage looking for a meal and actually gets nasty. He has also been held right after eating with no ill effects. A third snake regurgitates everytime if I hold her sooner than four days after feeding. I have a corn that would not eat when housed with another corn. I have two (the first two mentioned) that will not eat if they are seperated. Corns, like people, all have their own personalities, that's part of what makes them so cool.
