Depends on how resourceful you are.. One member here built one for around $150 by salvaging most of the materials.

Depends on if you buy new or used wood, glass, etc. . .
Out of pocket I paid max of $200 and that is including plywood, shower door, screws, bolts, hinges, locks and lamps. I had 2x4's laying around that I used for the framing.
Hope this helps some. You can find good stuff at "Restores"

Re: Help Me ! (Figure out Sav cage costs)

i think i built my 8x4x4 for around 200. the most expensive thing is the lighting/electrical aspect of it. i used the fixtures you can mount to the roof of the enclosure. i wanna say i paid 40 dollars for 2 2-light fixtures. i only use 3 though. i use 2x2's for framing. other then that buy the thinner plywood its like 12 bux for an 8x4 and if you seal it properly it should last forever. do it right and your sav will behave like a sav should. a wild animal. wayne has a great enclosure to refer to. if your gunna treat the wood use a zero-voc wood sealer. or you could cover everything in frp (plastic board.)

I wanna say the lumber is cheapest. FRP, and Rot protection is whats costly.

For my Monitor enclosure (canadian) I was out $500 minimum. I'm in the midst of building another. I'll stay posted.

takes time. if its healthy it will usually associate you with food and act accordingly. keep your wits about you as it gets larger. i've never been bit by an adult sav but judging on the size of their jaws, im guessing it has the potential to be painful. i should be doing school work right now but instead i stayed glued to this forum lol

I have been bitten full force by a sub adult (Cera) and it's painful and draws blood.

Please understand, these are wild predatory animals, and you should always expect them to behave like predators, if they don't... then chances are it's not healthy.

Even when your lizard is fully "used to you" I recommend staying alert, avoiding sudden movements and ALWAYS keep your face away from the lizard's face! they can lunge forward and grab on with lightning speed.

Trust me, their field of vision, reflexes and speed are superior to a human, so it could very well grab on faster than you can react.

In my honest opinion, the only reason we don't hear about many Savannah Monitor bites, is that 99%++ of the animals in captivity are lethargic from improper care, so they are slow blobs that can hardly eat right, yet alone bite their owner.

and here in NM it's close to $40 for an 8 by 4 foot sheet and it's absolutely MISERABLE to work with. I think that well-sealed wood would suffice for a while, depending on the sav.

You can also try using linoleum. I kind of wish I had used that instead. I'm not sure about the porosity though.
