Taming the chainsaw!!
So we have started "taming" our baby jcps.
One is 80% safe with no glove. Only bit me once so far without them.
But now this one. Wow. 10-20 strikes at the glove during the first 10 min session.
We backed up a bit and now take it out on the branch and are waiting for it to go to the glove instead. So 10min=1 strike but it was open mouthed.
My son is the champ and not afraid. He seems to think he owes it to the snake to earn its trust. He did great with our jag and I hope his mojo works here to.
Couple pics

Thanks for looking.

Re: Taming the chainsaw!!
I thought there was going to be lots of blood by the thread title but glad to see there isn't. Good luck with the training

Re: Taming the chainsaw!!
So far they both have been good about the arm. This one only hits moving targets like fingers and even the hook once. It's funny they will wrap up an the bare arm to strike the glove.

Re: Taming the chainsaw!!
i've found as soon as the touch bare skin, they recoil back at the same speed as a strike, that said, sometimes after they recoil away from the heat, they come right back at you with a strike
i don't envy your task of taming down, little machine gun striking jungles mate
i hope they don't take too long to calm down for you
cheers shaun

My Spot does that recoil you described sometimes when he touches bare skin, at the speed of a strike. He'll never actually strike at anything but a rat, though.
I've actually come across some very tame jungle hatchies this year. lol

They do that at first touch but after they are ok with the arm. We truly don't mind. Its way easier than the first few times I handled our adult female. She was never handled and raised to 7' in a 18" square gecko tank. She never bit me but punched me a few times. Talk about spooky. Now she is absolutely calm. No hissing and flightiness. She actually liles her time out of the viv and will climb right onto me when I open the door. Funny how even an emotionless snake can appreciate a little bit of tlc and understand you pose no threat....anymore( stupid former owners)
