While channel surfing just now, we stumbled on a childrens show on Disney called "Jessie" and the episode is called "The secret life of Mr. Kipling"

Normally would not watch somthing like this, but a Varanid as the star of the show has me sitting here watching this junk.

I went to Los Angeles for my birthday one weekend, and went to Prehistoric Pets because it was only a 40-50 minute drive away. I saw the monitor in person and he didn't look to be in the best condition..

Seen so much of this monitor already.. From what I have seen of PP's videos, neither him or any of their other salvators have proper heating or caging.

My daughter loves that show. At the very least it shows a large monitor as a "friendly" pet. I think on the surface it does a good job of showing they aren't evil creatures and then it's up to everyone in the community to ensure the education is out there for people who decide to get one for their child.

I agree and have kids that watch this show. Its horrible other than the fact that the rich kid has huge monitor. There are many videos of him on youtube. Never seen him in person but he looks fine in the videos.

Since my kids are practically grown up now, This is the first I have seen of it.

After one episode, I changed the channel.

Still think it's neat when I see monitors in movies and on TV.

There is Lace monitors in one of the Crocodile Dundee movies, can't remember which one though.

That's sad.. so that's how it stays still for the program shoots..

I noticed it didn't move around a lot during the show.

And room humidity... Yes, let's take an animal from Indonesia and put it at 72 degrees and 40% humidity. That makes sense.. But guys don't forget, they run a large pet store and take care of thousands of animals, so they know better than us.

It's also incredibly obese. I have only seen it waddle around in the show with it's belly dragging.

How can people treat animals like this??

I think I will skip watching the Disney channel now.

Honestly, it's not Disney's fault for placing this in their show. They wrote in the child has a large pet lizard. They found someone with a "docile" one. I don't blame Disney for being uneducated. I blame the owners of the monitor for not educating them. And just to be a butt, we don't even know if they told people on site that it isn't the norm for these animals to behave like this.

The animated classics we have on DVD.

Yeah, you'd think that it would be common sense to keep an animal from a different environment in the environment it came from. But, many people don't think that. My dad and my brother say that both my snakes will be fine at 72 degrees and whatever humidity we have in the room (boa constrictor and ball python) and that they won't get sick or die. Or, if they "were that specific, they should've died out long ago because an animal that specific with it's needs couldn't have survived that long."

I feel sorry for the poor monitor, although I do wish more "pop culture" would paint reps in a positive light, and with the correct info. That way, maybe they'll lose some of the bad credibility they have. And use correct info people can make smart choices on the rep they want, as well as take proper care of them.
