What kind of snake is this?????

I live in Florida and this was in my back yard. I do not know what it is. I live in a subdivision with a bunch of houses around me and I was very suprised to see this. When I went to move it it turned to me and the head broadened and hissed at me. This was the first I have ever experienced like that. My wife is worried as my kids are always playing in the back yard!! Any help would be awesome!!! Thanks

Kinda of a small pic...but it kinda looks like a pine snake. Pine snakes are known for putting on a show when disturbed.

My second guess would be Nerodia sp. (water snake).

Yup, looks like a pine snake to me. Doesn't look like any of the venomous snakes we have down here.

Did you kill it? It looks like its been beaten to death. It does look like a pine snake and they do hiss pretty loud. My second guess would be Hog nose, but I don't know if they are in your area.

Re: What kind of snake is this?????

Thank you everybody for your responses, I do really appreciate it. No I did not kill it but I did have it squeezed at its head with my trash pick up clamps right before I took the picture. I put it in a bucket and dropped it off 5 miles from my house, to make my wife happy. Thanks again for everyone's help!!!

Hognose ♥ They will flatten their heads to try to look venomous. Very common in central florida. It is hard to know for certain without a closeup picture of the head though.

kudos to you for re-homing it and not hurting it.
