Re: Stop Rattlesnake Killing
What kind of killing are we talking about here?
The roundups or otherwise random hunting of rattlesnakes?

Re: Stop Rattlesnake Killing
Again I propose a question.
Why are you so against rattlesnake hunting/roundups when thousands of deer/fish/elk etc are hunted every year. The population is stable enough to support it. Why is the rattlesnake a more valueable animal?
Unless of course, you are against hunting all together ?

Re: Stop Rattlesnake Killing
Correct me if I'm wrong, but during the rattlesnake roundups, all parts of the animal are used? More or less.

Re: Stop Rattlesnake Killing
Oh most definitely against hunting all together
I don't like when people kill any kind of animal. I understand, that yes people need to eat, but that doesn't mean you should do it for sport, or kill absolutely more than you have to.

Re: Stop Rattlesnake Killing
Fair enough that you're against killing altogether Kayla.
I believe Stephan is correct in that at the roundups they are used to the greatest amount. Meat is eaten, skin used etc. etc.
Dehlida made a good point about the population being very stable. I don't see a problem with these round ups.

Re: Stop Rattlesnake Killing
Well honestly, I'm tired of people killing animals. I don't care whether its for food or not. We torture farm animals so we can feed ourselves, so instead of going off and killing other animals just because it's to your taste, why don't you just stick to the animals like Veal that you decide to chain up as babies so that their meat is just to your liking. Or the Chickens whose becks you shave down so that when they are all shoved together they don't peck each other to death. Why not eat the meat that society has decided to mass produce and feed chemicals just so you can be happy and have the meat to eat instead of going off and killing animals just because you enjoy it!

I'm a hunter, and a fisherman. I always have been, but I NEVER take the shot unless I'm confident it will be an instant kill. And I never take more then I need.

Re: Stop Rattlesnake Killing
-.- Sorry that was a bit of a rant there... and was by no means directed towards any one person, but just society itself...

Re: Stop Rattlesnake Killing
Also I'm just going to copy and paste what the info page said on the link:
Description
The way that many snake hunters capture Rattlesnakes by often spraying gasoline or other toxic chemicals into holes, rock crevices and burrows is deadly for the other creatures that share the den with the Rattlesnake--the Gopher tortoise is almost extinct due in part to this practice. This ignorant practice also pollutes the ground water that we and our livestock eventually will drink--so we are poisoning ourselves in our lust for greed and control.
General Information
The removal of even one Rattlesnake has a huge impact on the local populations of predators and prey where it was taken from. Rattlesnakes have a very slow reproductive rate and if many snakes are removed from an area in a short period of time then those snakes that are left will have a very hard time finding mates and controlling prey items such as rodents and rabbits which may then overpopulate spreading disease, damaging crops and offsetting the balance of nature.
Mission
STOP RATTLESNAKE ROUND UPS!

Re: Stop Rattlesnake Killing
First you say "people gotta eat" and now you're tune has changed. Which is it?
I had more to write but then I realized I just don't want that kind of argument tonight.

We don't torture animals, certain people do. I kill animals for sport, as people have for a long time. Animals kill other animals for sport. It's nature- go read up on killer whales for a bit.
I'll eat any sort of meat- fresh meat from hunted game/fresh slaughtered animals I raise is fantastic. That doesn't mean I won't sometimes eat pre-packaged garbage just like everyone else.
Population is stable, we aren't killing off species. We are sustaining ourselves.

Lol I know I went on a bit of a rant there, and when I do that sometimes I don't relay things properly. I am against killing, but I my paragraph was more about my anger towards what they do towards farmed animals such as veal and chicken not towards hunters.

I never meant to indicate that hunters torture animals, I know a couple people that are hunters, such as Stephan. They way he hunts I have no problem with, I also know that he does it when he does survival camps as well. My anger was mainly directed towards people who do mistreat animals.
