my neighbors are creeps

They sent animal control to my house! Thankfully everything is in order, so the nice officer just complimented me on how nice my animals are kept, but also refused to tell me who called.

Last time it was children's protection service "we have a report of reptiles and children....."

Why do people have to act this way???

We are doing nothing wrong.. There's nothing "report worthy" here, yet they call every agency they can and just file blind accusations.

Is the fear of snakes really that bad that folks have to raise dickens over what I do in my own home??

Thanks for listening to my rant..!

Re: my neighbors are creeps

Who'd you piss off? Sounds more like a personal grudge than fear of the animals.

If it's something as trite as fear of your animals, that's just lame. I'd rather have a houseful of snakes over one pitbull. I like pitties but I wouldn't trust them around my kids.

Re: my neighbors are creeps

It's happened before, and more than likely it will again.

The older couple right next door.. We had our Savannah out last summer, D.E.C. was here next day on a report that we had illegal wildlife.

Regardless of their motivations, using my animals against me is lame.

Stuff like this is why I'm very cautious about discussing my animals with anyone

Sorry Wayne.

Making posts like this are never a good thing. Not because it makes you look like an idiot alone but it feeds the stigma about our hobby and who keeps our animals. You do nothing good for the hobby as a whole by saying these things. The same goes for the rest of you making up "revenge" posts. It makes us all look childish and that we AREN'T responsible keepers. People can easily google this site up and find these posts.

To remain more on topic, Wayne I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm glad the officer was very kind and at least reasonable to deal with.

you ever heard the saying "if we didnt laugh we'd cry " i'm not looking for an arguement mate.but 99% of our post are good informative mannerable polite posts.so the odd post with a bit humerous banter to try and cheer some one up when the're going through some stressfull times surely isnt that bad on the grand scheme of things.

i also fail to see where having a sense of humor reflects bad husbandary practices or that we are irresponsable keepers.

this is just my opinion
cheers shaun

Not everyone shares the same humour you might. I didn't catch where this was a stressful situation since everything was fine. I was making a point that being careful far outweighs your thoughts on humour. Someone can easily misconstrue anything said online. I'm just watching out for my hobby as well as yours.

not everyone shares my sense of humor thats a fair statment.but if you look at this thread the majority of the people who posted on it appears to have a sense of humor along the same lines as i do (on this subject matter).

i understand in your country your having problems with the government re reptiles.

the stressfull situation i was reffering to was having crappy neighbours like infernalis has.also having to put up with people coming into his home and checking up on him just because his neighbour wants to be awkward.

surely for someone to misconstrue the fact we're having a laugh they would have to be a tad dim in the first place. no?

i keep all my snakes in proper conditions and treat any problems they may have in a fast and efficiant way.

the country i live in has took political correctness to a very silly level.now you are telling me having a sense of humor is dangerous to me as a snake keeper.i'm very sorry if i have caused any offence but i would not change who i am just to appease some folk out there who have nothing better to do than look through forums trying to cause trouble and for what " the crime of having a laugh." with fellow reptile keepers.

it is a very sad day indeed when having a sense of humor is frowned apon.

we are both entitled to our opinions as thankfully we both still live in a free country.so we will have to agree to disagree on this matter.
all the best shaun

Oh well that would piss me off something awful! Sorry to hear that mate, nice to hear the officer just complimented you though lol Unfortunatly the fear of snakes (which is obviously down to raw unadulterated ignorance) is rife. Just last night I changed channel and saw some rediculas movie about a giant snake that roars like a lion, I hate that sort of crap. Is there some sort of community get together in your area? You could write an open letter, even have an "open day" to educate some neibours and entertain the kids....

Re: my neighbors are creeps

Not sure how your houses are built over there but if there is access to the underside of their house then a couple of fresh fish chucked under there will create a "stink" for them too!

Keep doing what you are oding mate and ignore scum like that - they aren't worth your time or attention and you are too good a man to be treated like that by them.

Re: my neighbors are creeps

thats a bummer mate, why cant folk " just live and let live " as long as your harming no one else.

the way i see it mate you have 2 choices

1.you ignore it and dont let it get to you.smile at the neighbours and say have a nice day.that usually gets to them more, the fact your still your happy care free self.

or

2.you fight fire with fire, you report everything you see that breaks even the simplest of rules.you call the relevant services and send them to their doors.

are you able to narrow it down to which neighbour it is ? i mean how many folk saw chomper out that day.that alone should narrow it a bit.

i wish you all the best with this mate, its horrible living with the worry of what a cranky neighbours going to do next.but you've nothing to hide mate.all your animals and family are being looked after 100% the right way.its a pity these folk have nothing better to do than waste these services time, when they could be on a legitimate call helping animals that are in real need of help.i hope things get sorted for you mate.
cheers shaun

p.s.this is more on the lines of lankyrobs fish suggestion, but i remember spilling a pint of milk down the back of the dashboard in my car.everytime i used the heaters or it was a sunny day it made my eyes water.we had to sell the car in the end it was that bad.just a thought, haha

Re: my neighbors are creeps

The way I do it is this... I stay calm and nice, I wave to them and pretend everything is just fine.

Then I just casually pile up all my used substrate (including the rat and mouse cages) into a tidy compost pile right next to their front sun porch.

A brief explanation - My house is an old farm property, lots of acres of land, but the original owner separated 2 small lots back in 1973, her son lives on one small lot, They are decent to live next to, the other small lot got sold and these people who live there are the ones that I just wish would either move away or pass away, either one is fine by me.

Re: my neighbors are creeps

i do that mate, just smile and say good morning, etc.dont hold your breath on the pass away option.the cranky folk in our street are now well into their 80's.they have been causing me bother since i used to come to the street i live in now as a kid to play with friends.i am now just short of 44 years old and they caused my kids the exact same trouble they caused me as a child.3 of my kids are now grown up,2 off them moved to their own places.but my poor wee 9 year old now bears the brunt of these miserable old grumps who've been moaning about kids playing for over 30 years that i can personally vouch for.

watch they dont accuse you of attracting unwanted rodents with your substrate pile mate.over here they can cause bother by claiming that.

fingers crossed they up sticks and go.
cheers shaun
