First off let me just say, your 14. You shouldnt be dealing with ANY hots in the least bit of way. You didnt even study up on the snake before you got it. For all you know that could be an extreamly deadly snake on your hands. You cant always believe what people tell you with these types of things. They will tell you anything to make a sale. You yourself need to do a lot of studing to make sure that you can care for the snake, and that if you get bit, you wont drop dead.

You should not be talking anyways. You just as him are 14 too. You really need to be more respectful and besides what do you know. Who are you to decide if he should work with hots. I am guessing you do not work with them so you have no reason to talk. You must not have any expereince at all do you?

Please tell me were i showed him any disrespect? It sounded to me that he didnt study up on what he was getting because he said " the guy im buying it from told me it was as venomose as a wasp" I was think "Hey, if he studyed he would know how venoumus it is, and he wouldnt have to take the guys word for it." Now i know he did study up on them, and he knows what he doing. And, your right, im nobody to decide if he should deal with hots or not. But from my experience (and yes i do have experience). I know it wouldnt be a wise idea to consider hots at that young of an age. I do realize that its just a coulubrid, and is not deadly, but it was the point that he was considering hots, and i was under the influence that he didnt study. Sorry Frog Man if i disrespected you in any way, its my fault of assuming that you didnt study. Can you please forgive me?

there is no reports of any ratsnake related piosonings. And as far as doing research. Half of the information on the net is garbage and sometimes asking people who actually owning the snake is better information.
Pitviper - you should learn to bite your tounge...get a bit more experiance before you run your mouth about hots.
my 2 cents.

Royal diadems are generally considered non-venomous. They have a venom gland, and possibly some kind of rear fang, but there has never been a serious human bite. They are venomous in much the same way that hog-nose snakes are venemous. I would suggest they are not a good first hot, because I would hesitate to actually call them a hot. Be aware though that anaphylactic reaction is always a possibility.

Most colubrids are venomous; some are dangerous (boomslang), some are not (garter). As far as I know there is no real risk from any species of rat snake.
Make sure you do all your research and don't jump into anything. And listen to Bob Dylan.

Royals are pretty much harmless ive unpacked and packed many of them and have been bitten. the bite was no worse than a red ratsnake and ENVENOMATION was not a factor if even present. The care for that species is fairly basic and they do well in captivity. I do beleive research on the species is a priority before owning and getting in to hots should never be undertaken by minors for numerous reasons. Not to say they can not handle hots but the liabilities involved in a bite both medical and the investigations to the parentds conduct would be extreme. If you or anyone for that matter wishes to get hots get properly trained and wait till your of legal age to take on the responcibilities that go with the risk.
