My wife uses Herpmaster to take care of our collection of snakes and out of all of the programs we have used it has been without a doubt the best. I can't say enough good things about it.
One of the best features in my opinion is when someone purchases a snake from us we can send a data pack of its history to the buyer who can then plug it right into their copy of herpmaster.
Once our collection gets to a certain point we will also be updating our version to use the bar codes.
Anyway I would say download it and try it out what do you have to loose its free and awesome.

I did download it....omg...I can't figure it out, lol. I think it'd probably take me like 3 weeks to figure this program out and get used to it. It's NOT intuitive. It does have a lot of features, but it takes up a huge amount of space. I tried out the climate tool, and it wanted to use QuickTime! Is that really necessary? <lol>
I wouldn't buy it...good thing it's free.
I might try playing around with it some more later, and see if I can figure out how to put records in....
I still like FreeHerp better, though, it's SO easy to use, and right now it does everything I need--I only have a small collection.
I'm looking forward to seeing the pro version of FreeHerp...my understanding is, FreeHerp was never meant to "compete" with paid programs like Degei...it was meant to compete with other freeware, and give an intro to the up-and-coming pro software. HerpMaster is just a paid program that's been made free by its creator to "kill the market" (his own words), because he was mad at FreeHerp....it sounds weird, doesn't it? <lol>
But in any case, it's ProHerp that's supposed to compete with the paid programs, not FreeHerp. It should be really interesting to see how ProHerp compares with HerpMaster.
I understand ProHerp is going to look and feel pretty much the same as FreeHerp, which already indicates it's going to be one heck of a lot easier to use.

Well, here's my review. If it means anything to the developers of the software, I'm a professional Software Quality Assurance Engineer. That being said....

This software is VERY feature-heavy. This by itself is not a bad thing, however, the interface REALLY needs work. Buttons are located where you would not intuitively expect them to be, the menus are not reflected well in the interface, and the colors are drab and kind of uninviting.

The climate feature, as well as the punnet square feature, however, is WAY cool. This can so help you figure out husbandry of an animal where little is known about them - find out what the basic climate is, and start from there. I will most definitely be using this to help me figure out the husbandry of my Papuan pythons.

This is a 156 MB install and a 35 MB download. This does pay tribute to its features though.

Will I use the software? I'm thinking so, once I have the time to figure it out. But, there are other free herp softwares I'm going to try first.

My overall rating based on 15 minutes of testing, 6.5/10. This will probably increase as I familiarize myself with the user interface. I'll post again in a couple of weeks, if anyone (especially the developers) care to hear my opinion, which I'll probably express anyway.

The software you're so proudly spouting off about all over the net might be free, but you also have a ' pay to own' version. I'm thinking that by offering a freebie, you're hoping to catch a few paying customers as well. I might be wrong, but I doubt it.
Selling isn't allowed in the discussion forums, my feeling is that it should be in the classifieds.
For now, I'm going to lock this thread but keep it online until I get some feedback from the powers that be.
