Do you guys spray your racks?

Hey Guys,

To the guys with racks, do you spray your rubbermaids and if so how much and how often? I have yet to spray my rubbermaids and the Humidity is at 30-33, what do you guys think.

Thanks

Everyday, a light spray unless the tub shows signs of humidity on the sides - works fine.

your humidity should be up around 50 to 60 percent.

Humidity in racks..

I would say 30-33% is too low. I keep the room that all my racks are in at 60%. Even with the humidity up that high it is hard to keep it in the bins. I find that I can't get it much higher than the high forty's!

So to answer your question, yes I do mist the bins. I don't do it every day, only a couple times a week. I find that after misting the humidity in the bins will reach the high 70's and it will take several days for it to go below 60%.

When I have a snake in shed I will make sure the bin is at least 60%, works like a charm!

Hope this helps.

the ambient humidity in my reptile room is between 40-50% so no, I do not mist my bins. Each person and each bin in every house are different, there is no way to receive a
"common" answer to your question.

I do not spray unless my rack goes under 50%. My humidity stays at about 55 to 60 most of the time though (I do live in humid louisiana). As far as shed times and the humidity being too low, I have a set of smale (hide size) rubbermaid containers that I use as humid hides during shed and low humidity times. When you use a humid hide you allow your snake to regulate its humidity as well as temperature. And I figure the snake knows what is best for itself, right? So it can choose to go in the humid hide or not. You can make one with any type of hide and some damp paper towels. Ever since I have started using humid hides I have had nothing but perfect sheds and happy snakes, so all I can give is praise.

On the top level of my hatchling rack I have a 1/4 " gap and those ones have to be sprayed a couple times a week and each day when the snake is in shed. The other level of the rack is tighter fitting so I don't have any humidity probs with them, I only spray them down when I change substrate. I should get a humidifier but found my home smelled musty when I used a humidifier. Yuck!
