Multiple cresteds in one tank?

Is this a safe thing to do? I have a friend interested in the little guys and was wondering if he can do this in one of the exoterra 18"x18"x24" tanks?

Matt

You can safely house multiple cresties in a tank, but there could be some problems. As with most species, only one male. Females tend to live in harmony most of the time if there's no male around. They establish a pecking order and it works pretty well. However, I've noticed once you add a male, the highe-up females tend to become bossy and the lower-down females get the short end of the deal. The highest ranking female will be the most likely to mate, and the farther down the rank you go, the less likely it is to get fertile eggs. Once the male is added, you can also see problems with food hogging and chasing, something 'spinster girl' groupings don't usually do. If you want a mixed sex group, stick to 1.2 I've come to the conclusion that more than 2 girls with any one male can lead to problems, no matter how big the enclosure is.
