brown basilisk info?

I have experience with geckos, emerald swifts, and armadillo lizards. Looking for something new and I came across a brown basilisk in the pet store the other day. Very impressive I thought. Did some research but was wondering if any of you have had any hands on experience keeping them. any info would be great.

If you did some research i am sure you have care down. As for experience with them, i have kept 40+ browns. All wild caught here. Extremely easy to care for in my opinion. They are neat lizards and you should be very pleased when obtaining one.

Get it you will be happy. One of my first lizards was a banded basilisk named Spaz. She lived to be 14. She was one of my favorite lizards even though she wasn't as impressed by me. She was not really all that friendly but still worth it. I kwpt her on orchid bark with lots of moss, fake plants lots of wood and hiding spots. She also had a very large water basin with a small pump. She would always chill in the water. Plus it helps keep the humidity up.

The browns are really cool, but have you seen the green basilisks? Quite a bit nicer IMO.. but both of them are awesome lizards.

if you don't mind the dragon's, frilled dragons are really neat....imo they have more of a personality than beardies (not quite as much as leo's or crestie's tho)......captive bred frilled's are still a little hard to find but they are out there somewhere....i got one from a friend of mine and at the time i got him i had 16 leo's, 1 beardie, and 1 mali, and he is still the most fun to have out of his cage......however, if they do bite you i heard it is worse than a beardie bite.....but they are great little guys! just my two cents!

So i went back to the store tonight and apparantly this basilisk has quite a history. He was brought into the store and the store manager tried to give it deworming meds and it bit her. It wouldn't let go so apparantly she pried its mouth open breaking it's jaw. Luckily one of the employees had some experience with them and decided not to euthanize it as the manager had suggested but try to save it. It was then kept in the back room of the store for 5 months while it healed. It is now completely healed and its mouth looks normal. I was told it is a she and she is pretty aggresive although she has began to calm down since the incident. I really want to get her out of there. My question is if I go get her and bring her home are there any tips you have for handling her? I'm used to lizards much smaller and not as aggressive. Is there a particular way to hold her where she won't bite me? Thanks for the help, I'm hoping to rescue her tommorow.

put a small piece of clothe with your scent on it in the enclosure and she will get used to your smell and not associate you as a threat. also give it around 2weeks to settle in then hold her for 10min a day. dont put her back in the enclosure until she is calm.

I brought her home today. she's doing well, getting used to her new home. I'll post some pics of her later in case anyone's interested in seeing her. You can barely tell where her jaw was broken.
