Caudal luring in Ackies

IS this normal?, Sometimes when He (or she) is hungry he uses his tail as a lure...im not sure what hes hoping to attract but its funny to watch. He just sits still and squirms his tail around beside him or on the driftwood above him, and now hes digging again...

They do that when they get excited, especially with insects around. But I don't think they are doing it as a lure.

Same with a lot of tree frogs. They wiggle their toes rapidly just before striking. But its not to actually lure the insect.

Ive seen lots of baby leopard gecko's do this as well.

my fat tails do the tail shake...and my darts do the toe thing, but the ackies tail is different, it actually looks like how the death adders do it. I didnt think it was a lure because most things it would attract would eat the ackie.

I think its a balance thing before striking. Mine do this too, mostly the females. Males are more brutish, just jump and destroy where the females make their hunt somewhat artistic. Pretty cool to watch.

Ackies do the tail wiggle in many different situations, when they are excited, when they are showing dominance or submissive behavoiur towards a cage mate, or when they've entered a new environment. But, the tail wiggle seems to have nothing to do with caudal luring. Ackies are not sit and wait predators, they move around in search off prey, therefore caudal luring would be inaffective for them. Also, ackies prey mostly on small insects and lizards in the wild, most of which would be scared off by a large ackie tail squirming about.
