I dont think niles deserve the reputation they deserve. I can say i was a newbie last year when i first got my Savanah. They were too boring. Then i traded it for a Nile. I've had my nile for over 6 months and hes a really interesting monitor. They're full of energy and they're fun to watch.

What i hear all the time is "this is not a beginner monitor". But no one knows how well they are with animals. I think if i clean, feed, handle them right its the same thing with every monitor. I dont think its difficult at all. And if someone new wants to get a monitor i think they should get a nile.

The only thing thats the problem is the size and being new to the hobby won't limit you either. They do grow big and u gotta have alot of room. Other than that its the same thing for every monitor...

Hell i think im ready for a croc monitor. Jkz

I think they get that rep because people dont think about the size and amount of food they require and how aggresive they can be. Thats why they recomend this not as a beginner monitor...when its full grown people just say, hey, this is way to big for me..and give it away or it just gets abused. I think if you really want one and know what your doing and think into the future then its perfectly fine but for most beginners in the reptile world it is not the sort of thing their looking for...just my 2 cents..

THATS WHERE YOU ARE WRONG MY FRIEND

I have experience and have friends with experience with baby Niles THAT NEVER CALM DOWN Im not even going to get into the hole Ornate and regular Nile controversy but great if yours is calm I know many people with niles that are as docile as your pet dog. But to say as a generalized comment that all Niles will calm down u are greatly mistaking.

I am happy you enjoy your niles company but don't advertise them to just anyone it takes special comitment that I know I and many many many other people definetely have to care for one of these lizards... So please do not hype them up to be beginner lizards there is already to high a population of these large lizards that are unwanted dont try add to it...

BUT EVERYONE DONT GET ME WRONG THEY ARE AWESOME ANIMALS, DONT THINK I AM AGAINST PEOPLE HAVING THESE GREAT LIZARDS
