Rough green snakes?

hey everyone after weeks of searching i finally found a pet store that carries rough green snakes for $40 a peice i have a 20 gal tank for them but haven;t been able to find out much info about them can i keep them togther the pet store was keeping them togther so i was assuming its ok but then again u never know with pet stores they say they eat crickets not positive though.Also if anyone knows there heating and misting requirments and what there temperment is like i'd greatly appreciate it. there so beutiful if i end up getting them i;ll post some pics.

K the only thing i can answer for sure is that yes they eat crikets. You can feed them this all their life but some variety is great. Good luck!

Ack! I just have to ask this! PM me if you feel necessary, but....where the heck is this pet store?! I mean, CB rough greens, $40?! Me want!!

My 2 cents, if you can find out who the breeder was, I would find out what they were feeding the babies. Crickets aren't usually taken well. Usually soft bodied stuff like moths, caterpillars, silk worms, waxworms. But then again this only relates to getting the WC stuff to eat. Besides crickets are nasty! :P

I've never seen Rough green snakes anywhere, why aren't they more popular? From what I've read they sound like good snakes to keep, so is there some deep dark secret that stops people from keeping them? It sure can't be their looks, because they're very pretty (to me, at least), and feeding seems easy as any insect eating lizard.

WOW. CB ones. i would double check that. and one way to see is if they have any scars or anything like that on them. if they are CB, sign me up. where was this?

From my experience, they have a habit of just dying randomly one day.

And usually the reason is not eating. If you get one which eats for you, give it a varied diet with some occasional supplementing and it should be good. They don't seem to have as much parasite problems as other WC North American colubrids.

That's great that yours have lived so long mzsu! What do you feed them and how do you house them? Do you use UV lighting? We could learn some tips from you maybe.

wow mzus thats amazing ten years . how large of cage do u house them in and feed them and how often do u sublement and so on plz pm me or post it here thx. thx bw smith i went out and bought that book today at pet mart thats where i saw the rough green snakes for sale ($40) supposedly they always get them in so theres plenty for anyones who's intreseted. However I made a mistake i'm thouhgt i read they were captive breed on the sign on there cage but i went back today and all it says is rough green snakes maybe i was seeing things:S. The reptile dude is in tommorow and i'm gonna ask him then i'll post it thx for the info everone. ya i think rough greens should be more popular there so beutiful too bad there not alot knowen about them or maybe theyd live longer..

Well, I don't take any special care of my four green grass snakes. Of course they are captive bred (littermates) and eat a lot (some of them even fat)!!! They live in a rather large terrarium (80x70x40 cm) with a branch and some plants in it (for climbing - these snakes love to climb). I use a heating lamp (normal 25 Watts bulb, not UV). I feed mainly brown crickets in spring and fall, but in the summer they have a more various menu: grasshoppers, black crickets, moths and spiders - anything I can catch in the fields. I don't use supplements or vitamins. The brown crickets are fed fish food and fresh salad or chickweed. My snakes are not very shy, I can carry them outside in my hands to take a sunbathe in the summer (one by one of course). In winter they have a pretty long rest (3-4 months or so), don't eat but come out to drink at times. I love these beautiful snakes (though I'm not a reptile-fan), the only drawback of keeping them is that they eat way too much! It's a hard work to snap all those small creatures to feed them...
