Safely getting a small snake off of you?
I knew this was gonna happen eventually with this girl. My little bloodred corn has a pretty crazy feeding response and tonight she decided to sink those little baby fangs into me. It didn't hurt mind you, but she also decided to "kill" my hand. I think she realized that I wasn't food, but she was still in feeding mode, and was wrapped around my hand. When I tried to get her off she kept striking and I didn't want to hurt her or stress her out anymore. So I just let her come off on her own.
If this happens in the future, do you guys have any suggestions for getting her off as safely as possible?

You have to just yank them off, a gouge in the eyes help as well lol j/k, with a corn I'd just keep doing what your doing, if it doesn't hurt no point in doing anything to maybe cause a broken tooth, but maybe put him under running water with the head pointed down so it doesn't run down the throat or fill up the mouth.

Yeah, I dunked her in the water bowl a bit, but she was relentless lol. Do you think a spray bottle would work?

No I don't think a spray bottle is going to do anything, it's not a cat lol

This is true. When I spray my other corn snake, he just drinks the water lol.
The funny thing is, she's totally docile while being handled but has a demonic feeding response.

My first thought was to distract them with actual prey? What if you dangle her food in front of her nose, to really get the point across that you aren't edible? LOL

A dab of JD on the side of the mouth to get the teeth off and under cold running water to make them let go of the grip... Works a treat

Re: Safely getting a small snake off of you?
I used to have a bottle of 80% distilled alcohol in my snake-room at all times, either using a cotton-ball soaked in it close to or against their nose. Makes a snake let go really easy without having to harm it. But if they ever get me really bad, i would pour it in their mouth. But that was for 15+ feet snakes, never had to use it though (not by the lack of trying on their side ) Gonna make a new one soon.

Heh, this wasn't even during feeding time. She just has a crazy appetite and was already waiting at the top of the cage for me. I think I may have touched my dog before handling her and forgot about it. I guess I'll have to be absolutely sure that I've washed my hands right before handling her. Also, I'll try to work on breaking her feeding response a bit.
For those of you who use alcohol, do you think vodka would be okay?

Q-tip with some brown death listerine dabbed on the corner of their mouth works wonders. They hate it as much as we do.
