Re: snake staying in water bowl

it might begoing into shed or could have mites? either one is a possibility, i would just make sure he has the correct humidity and make sure he isnt too hot , sometimes snakes will retreat to there water if kept too hot, good luck but 24 hours in water will not cause scale rot.

Re: snake staying in water bowl

it might just want to be in the water... There doesnt have to be a legitimate reason for little things like that. One of mine loves getting in the water, No mites, not about to shed, right humidity and right heat. There's really no telling might just be comfortable.

Unless you have other concerns like mites or problems with the enclosure then he probably just likes chilling in the hot tub after his nice meal.

My Taiwan spends at least 4-5 hours a day chilling in the water bowl, perfect gage temps and humidity no mites. Totally normal.

If the snake ate I wouldn't worry too much. Those guys are notorious for not eating when things aren't precisely right. I would just double check the humidity levels.

Also make sure it's hides are tight fitting. It might just feel more secure in a smaller water dish than in an oversized hide.

That is always an option as well. My ball python was soaking for a while, and normally he hates the water dish. My wife is having a fit because she believes that the snake has mites again. I assure her that is not the case.

Next morning there is a fist sized pile of snake steamer on, in and around his water dish.

Don't worry he lives in a wet environment in nature. He should not get scale rot. All my water snakes and the anacondas keep their enclosures wet, no matter how hard I try to keep them clean and they never have had scale rot.

Re: snake staying in water bowl

Hello and welcome! It perfectly normal for bloods to soak for hours. like Aaron S. said be sure to have hides that it can barely fit in. They love really tight hides it helps them to feel secure. P.S. we love to see pictures of your snake and set up.

I second all of the above, mostly the part where marvel said we'd love to see pictures. =]
