Got my bones!
Yesterday I got my first bite! My baby RTB got me. Let my hand linger a bit too long after putting him in his feeding container. A mistake I will not repeat. I must say though I'm glad I got it. I have read countless stories of being bit and never knew, and I didn't want to "make" one of my snakes bite. So thats my story.
Anyone else remember their first bite?

Re: Got my bones!
My first bite was by a wild garter snake,
It was 1977 give or take a year.
I found a large female (probably gravid) and immediately reached down and picked her up, she spun around and latched on to my hand so hard I bled.
Nowadays, if one of my snakes bites me, I don't do anything, I wait for them to let go of me.
I am too afraid of hurting the snake.

Re: Got my bones!
Lol. My first bite was my ball python. I had been handling my pet guinea pig and forgot to wash my hands. About 10 minutes later the maintenance guy from my apartment complex came in to fix a leak and I asked if he wanted to see Saleen (my BP). He said he wasn't sure how he felt about snakes, as the only ones he'd seen were when he was in Vietnam and they shot them. I assured him Saleen was "the sweetest snake ever, perfectly tame" and went and stuck my hand in there, and WHAMMO. He got his mouth across all 4 fingers and hung on. I screamed and the maintenance guy turned white as a ghost (and for a rather dark-skinned black man, that's quite frightened). Saleen let go as soon as he realized I wasnt food, and I walked to the kitchen to run my hand under water. The guy was freaking out and asking if I needed to go to the hospital...I just said, no I'm fine and forgot I was holding a guinea pig and the snake mistook my hand for food. He was starting to go into shed at that point, so he probably couldn't see my hand well, but just caught a whiff of food scent and a moving heat signature and went for it. For the rest of the time I lived there, the maintenance guy would not go in the spare bedroom I kept Saleen in.

my first bite was from a male jungle we called crazy bert.the guy that first had him used to open his tub lid a little, chuck in a food item and that was it.the only other human contact bert had was when the guy changed his water, but only when he could be bothered.my mate rescued bert and i bought him after my mate tried for 3 months to calm him down.i tried my best to get him used to human contact for the next year.on a very, very good day you could take him out for 10 minutes and not get bit.you had to take him out with gloves on,let him get used to being handled with the gloves, then slip a glove of and introduce him to the heat of your hand.on a good day you'd get both gloves off.you would still have to move in slow motion to avoid bites.it was the heat from your that set him off the worst,he would not even go across my jeans as the second heat was detected from my leg he was very nervous and on his guard.the good days were few and far between.i kept him like a wild example,in the end he would let you take his water bowl but that was about it.i sold bert only a couple of months ago with a female jungle as a pair.i told the guy all about bert, the female was tame so there was no problems with her.the other day i was on a forum and the guy i sold the pair of jungles to is now selling them.his advert says both jungles are quite tame.this made me very angry as imo bert has special needs and if those needs are not met then some poor guys going to get some sore bites.you see bert would'nt just strike you the one defensive bite,he would hit you like a machine gun until whatever was bothering him was out of range.he was quite a charecter and part of me misses him,my bitten hands, legs and arms dont though, haha
cheers shaun

Actually he just finished off a nice meal and was yawning.
I love that shot, people ask me things like "did he swallow the camera" and "did it hurt", things like that.

Re: Got my bones!
My first bite was the worse one of all. I was watching a 8 an half foot burm for a friend while on vacation. The second day i had it i went to change the water reached in an WHAM. He bit my left hand an rapped. It took me, my oldest daughter, and sister in law to get it off. We ran water over it head, an it let go after 5 minutes. (seem like 20min) I had 76 teeth holes and 8 teeth broke off in my hand. Luckly it only got haft my hand.(his head was as big as my hand) It bleeded for a few minutes. I end up with nerve damage in my index finger. I couldn't move it more than a 1/4 of a inch for around 5 to 6 months. I found out later that it hadn't ate in 2 months. He told me he fed it 3 days before bringing it over. His wive said he lied. After that everthing else has been love bites.

THE NECK OUCH! I had a baby retic nip my nose twice, but the neck. I bet that hurt like hell. Just the thought of getting bit in the neck is just so freaky. Did it just strike or latch on? Did it leave a mark? Detail we needed details.

Re: Got my bones!
I got bit last night by miss Mojo.
She tagged me on the right hand drawing blood.
I forgive her though.... She was just upset that I picked her up.
