Do it yourself terrarium rocks, walls and more.

Just found this site, thought I would share it. Looks pretty interesting.

Lizard care, and fake rock wall landscapes

Very cool link. I've attached a few pictures of an enclosure I did up for my collared lizard. The pyramid even has a hiding cave inside it made with a large plastic cup that is removable for cleaning.

DIY projects are always fun!!

Re: Do it yourself terrarium rocks, walls and more.

Hmmm. To sum up:

I carved the pyramid out of styrofoam. This mainly just takes a lot of planning, measuring and patience. Hahaha! I used a hot wire which was really quite inexpensive (about $25?) and it made working with styrofoam WAY easier. The pillar I made out of wooden dowel. I cut a cylindrical piece of styrofoam and melted away a hole in the middle with the hot wire, then slid it over the dowel and carved it to look like rocks. This dowel is still removable for cleaning... it pulls out from the ground and attaches into the top rock structure that I made out of styrofoam simply by slipping it into a hole.

The rocks around the walls of the enclosure I made using a rock mold that is supposed to be used for making train landscapes. You simply mix up the plaster that goes along with it, fill the molds, and wait. This also took quite a while. This stuff is good, though, because it is very lightweight. I lined the walls in styrofoam and glued these to the styrofoam and brushed everything in many coats of grout. I painted and then sealed it many times.

He seems to like it.. he utilizes pretty much everything and sleeps in his cup inside the pyramid almost every night.

The main thing required for stuff like this is patience. Don't expect it to be done overnight.. or within a week. This took quite a while of working on it periodically.

I'd love to see more DIY projects here!! Post pics!

Very nice, Mandie! Particularly like the temple. Btw, what size is the enclosure?

Where did you find the hot wire?

In addition to the call for patience, I would add planning.

Those are some nice DIY designs! I'm not nearly as crafty as I wish I was. Those look good!
