Re: My first reptile show :)

I haven't been to the one in Chattanooga, however most of the repticons are pretty serious business that I've been to--meaning generally well represented and lots of eye candy.

My routine if I'm there not vending-- I check every table out at least once before purchasing anything-- note the ones I want to spend time at again and try and get a feel for prices. If you are not finding what you want, you can always ask if they have anything behind the table- since some people will reserve some behind or even in their motel rooms for the next day.

I try not to impulse buy-- though generally I fail miserably at that. But what I mean with that is-- I want to be sure I'm getting a healthy animal and what they say it is as well....

I got a 'sable' several years ago that no one really has any clue what he is just not normal.. I'm breeding him finally this year to see what if anything I can prove out with him. When I got him, I didn't know a thing about that particular morph, and I trusted the breeder who was a fairly well known name === he is definitely not a sable! my own fault though!

If you can access the internet on your phone then you might want to have a bookmark for BPWorld or Hunter's Guide or another trusted site for other reptiles/amphi/inverts/etcetera If the sex of the snake really is important to you-- make sure that you have the contact info of the breeder once you've purchased if they can't seem to sex them on the spot. I usually carry a probe kit with me because most people don't have them at the table.

Having had a Tiger Retic named Tigerlily turn out to be Bubba and an albino named Shyloh (formerly my daughter's snake) now called Shiloh and hissing in a baritone-- I like to be sure I am leaving with that little girl I've wanted for the last 6 months rather than her brother.

Lots more of advice will be incoming I'm sure from others.

Ohh---and take a camera to show us all the fun!!!

Re: My first reptile show :)

i went to the chattanooga one on feb 17th it was pretty cool, not as big as what ive seen from pics of the Atlanta and Nashville area shows but over all a good time, and as Ms. Medusa said "lots of eye candy" they had everything from sugar gliders to spiders and scorpions and so many different lizard and snake vendors i lost track of what i saw where lol

lol its REALLY easy to do that in a show... I often spend half my time trying to find something I saw for a second look. Of course I'm not as methodical about it as some people...I'm like a little kid when I'm there....scary!
