Update on GTP and Enclosure

Okay well my temp gun came in this morning. I think I am going to have to just put the gtp straight into the 12x12x18 because I can not get the ambient air temperature to go up. I am just worried that this is a too big of an enclosure for it. I am going to try putting the shoebox it is currently in into a 10 gallon and warming the air of the ten gallon using the CHE I have. The temp where the heat mat is 88 degrees and the temp of the perches are 75 and my thermometer probe is in the same range which I have hanging off a perch to read the air. So if I can not get the air temp up I am going to move the gtp to the 12x12x18 and just use a lot of fake vines to try and make it less open. I'll post back when I figure something out.

Re: Update on GTP and Enclosure

Don't fuss with a smaller viv, go straight into the 12 x 12x 18 as long as you offer a lot of hiding and good husbandry your gtp will be fine.

Personally think that as long as the cage provides hidey holes the husbandry is more importrtant than size ofenclosure

Re: Update on GTP and Enclosure

Tomorrow first thing in the morning I am going to a dollar store three blocks away from me because they have 6' fake vines. Ill get those and I have a bushier fake plant thing I am going to put in. **OH** the sticker that says Crested gecko is only there because my little cousin made it when I had my crested in there. Never bothered to take it off.

Re: Update on GTP and Enclosure

Make sure to get a digital hygrometer too. I think these enclosures can have humidity drops if not watched. Just my experience though.

Yeah I am on that, I turn the humidifier on every so often which is what that white pvc tube is on top of the tank. I tried to take a pic of it on but you cant really see it too well (Second picture)

Re: Update on GTP and Enclosure

Personally I would put a few inches of cypress mulch in the bottom of that to help hold humidity. It doesn't mold and it can help you maintain humidity a lot easier than using a mister.

Well the mister's already there so I might as well use it but what about coco fiber / ecoearth? Or would it mold too quickly, because I have bags laying around unused. If not i could look around for a bag on cypress mulch.

I have sphagnum moss too; I read somewhere that it's mold resistant. What're your thoughts on that?

Re: Update on GTP and Enclosure

You need to get that top covered man, otherwise your humidity is going to go straight out the top. That light is basically a fan that draws humid air out of your enclosure the whole time it's on (heat rises remember). If this is going to be its permanent home, I'd actually look at getting a RHP for half the top and then a piece of plexiglass to cover the rest.

Re: Update on GTP and Enclosure

I use repti bark as a substrate in my GTP viv and then put a layer of sphagnum moss over the top, it holds the humidity rEALLY well, i agree that you will lose a lot of the humidity out of the top of the viv tho

Jarich.. I am a dope. I completely missed that it had a screen top with a light!

Like Jarich said.. ditch the light cover the top with Plexi and use a Radiant heat panel. It will save you a ton of work and your snake a ton of stress.

For Now I have most of it taped, as well as 3/4 of the holes at the bottom. There isnt a light as it is a Ceramic Heat Emmiter but I assume its the same none the less?

I'll try that with eco earth below the sphagnum moss.

Ill look into the Rhp. But being as I will probably get a 2'x2'x2' once it is large enough ill see if I can make due with the CHE without bringing any detriment to the gtp.
