Exclamation Oh dear....

One of my female roaches got out one night after I didn't close the lid tight on their container. Its been a week. No others got out because everyone is present. What should I do? I kinda had a panic attack over this whole thing and its not good. What if she has babies? How will I find her?
The first three nights I tore apart the room looking for her and found nothing. Room is quite tidy so I'm sure I got everything. I also looked up the walls and under picture frames. We put two glue traps with lettuce and little caps of water on them but that hasn't worked. I also put little magazines all over the floor throughout the room hoping she would crawl under them for cover.

FYI-I didn't close the lid tight because at that point my sleeping pill had kicked in and I was out of it. I know better now.....

Re: Oh dear....

nix your whole house- it is the only way! J/k if its just one roach i wouldnt be concerned but female roaches, they can go die in a fire, they breed and are so gross. I buy mine frozen cause I just cant stand the live ones. If glue traps dont work get that bait for roaches and lay some against the wall and in dark places.

Re: Oh dear....

No need to worry, itll die on its own. Ive had a few escapes of roaches before and they always turn up dead in the same developmental stage as they escaped. Any eggs it might lay will either not be able to hatch or will not go through further development. They require proper conditions to be able to develop.

Re: Oh dear....

Sorry, was just talking in generalities about roaches, rather than your MHR specifically. However I believe the same rules apply regarding their development; can't be achieved outside proper conditions.

Re: Oh dear....

Does everyone on here live where conditions aren't right for roaches? Here in South Carolina we have plenty of them so if a fertilized female were to escape, I'm pretty sure you'd have a colony in your living area. Sometimes it's a tenuous situation anyway - this time of year it's rare for people not to find a few in their houses as the temperatures start to cool a little.

Re: Oh dear....

Madagascan hissing roaches are not going to infest your house...they cannot really survive in human household conditions. I wouldn't worry much. I have a colony and I've had a number of nymphs and adults escape over the years, but they always turn up dead in a few weeks.
