Jcp pre lay behavior
So my gravid(or so we are pretty sure) JCP is twisting herself into knots and letting out big exhales. Is the egg alignment behavior? Any carpet breeders see this a couple days before eggs? Strangest snake behavior I have seen yet

twisting herself in knots is a good indication she's gravid mate
when did she last shed ? (pre lay shed)
egg deposition can be anything from 19 to 35 days after pre lay shed, average being 24.5 days (taken from a sample size of 30 clutches, barker and barker, pythons of the world volume 1 australia)
has she also been basking a lot more recently ?
cheers shaun

Re: Jcp pre lay behavior
forgot to say.....
re basking
if she has a branch near her basking spot, she will be hanging off it,in all sorts of wierd positions.
heating up certain parts of her body,1 bit at a time,or wrapped up in a tight knot,as close to the basking spot as she can get
i'll try and get some pic's of the female, from this years diamond jungle jaguar breeding project
dads a jungle jag,mum is a diamond jungle
heres them back in january 2012
i'll do my best to get pictures,of her wierd basking positions for you mate
all the best shaun

Re: Jcp pre lay behavior
So I decided to stay home from work cough cough.
She even ditched the slug. Lol. Not looking forward to pulling her off this clutch. Time to suit up in my hockey equipment I guess.
The kids just got home and lost their minds. Happy day.

Re: Jcp pre lay behavior
congratulations mate
the eggs i can see her coiled on look healthy
the one outside her coil looks like it may be a slug though, with it not being attatched to the clutch,i'd still pop it into the incubator and keep a close eye on it.
are you incubating them ?
or is she doing a maternal incubation ?
you tend to get a higher hatch rate from sticking them into an incubator
i'm really chuffed for you mate
all the best shaun

just take a firm grip of her head,as you would while doing a mouth inspection, then get your wife to gentley unravel her off the eggs
pop her in a tub/tank while you get the eggs into the incubator
don't forget to mark the top of the eggs,so you know which way is up
looking forward to pic's of them in the incubator
cheers shaun

Thanks!! We are incubating them. I just need to make sure she is done first.
The one off to the side is a slug for sure.
What a cool experience watching this. Nature is awesome!!
