I'll take any advice you got.

sup forum. so I got the eternal problem of trying to switch a DJJ from a mouser to a rat feeder. He's eating rat crawler/hoppers but I have to gut a hopper mouse and smear it all over the rat after washing it. He was a rat feeder when I got him but I committed the cardinal sin of giving him a mouse when the shops were out of rats. Now he just wont have anything to do with that rat without mouse guts all over it. Advice?!?!

My advice: Keep feeding with mouse guts. Then SLOWLY start putting less guts each feeding. He'll eventually take it without guts.

the classic answer is stop offering mice and only offer rats.

my GTP will refuse any kind of rat. She is too little to hunger strike her so I am doing nothing.

Yeah. I don't, nor will I ever feed him a mouse again. And I will try the reduced gut method(lol) thanks for your advice.

I agree. Stop offering mice. Just rats. They won't starve. Maybe wash the rat off a bit. Could be the change in urine smell from mouse to rat.

well start scenting less and less and eventually just stop scenting. Thats the advice I was given didnt work though shes been on mice her whole life when I started trying to switch her she and I had a battle of wits and I am sorry to say it but she won.
