A few serious questions

I know i havent posted in awhile but i have gotten on here pretty often to read posts, i get emails from some of the threads when people reply on them... Anyways like two days ago i took in a female Albino Burmese from a guy because his wife was pregnant and he couldnt keep her. Shes about 6.5ft long and looks very healthy weight wise (from my knowledge) I am no Burm/Python expert so all advice and info is welcome. Today i noticed when i first get her out of her cage she hisses really really loud but it sounded almost like a whistle and upon closer examination i can see liquid in her nostrils (only one) and it bubbles up just a tiny bit when she breathes. I know shes couldnt have gotten sick from a day in a half living here so if she is it was from her previous owner. She doesnt whistle with normal breathing at all, and doesnt look like she is ever struggling to breath. Can anyone tell me what may be the issue here?

Re: A few serious questions

It's an RI, burms are REALLY prone to getting RI's compared to the other pythons.
Bring the temperatures to the proper levels, I would bet money that they are too low. Bringing him to a vet is a great idea, they have meds that will kick that RI's hiney.

As I said burms are prone to RI's, if you don't have a thermostat, get one. Try not taking him outside if you can help it.

Respiratory Infection (R.I) imo. Take her to a vet.

Re: A few serious questions

ok her ambient air temp never falls below 84F it peaks in the low 90's im still adjusting it. She makes no popping noises ive heard in other snakes (some that didnt have R.I.) No mucus anywhere near her mouth, and its not always in her nose like right now for instance none at all.. just seems like when i first get her out. And it was only one nostril. Just some things to consider. You think her humidity could be to high? i havent placed a gauge for that in there yet, i need to, the stupid one i bought doesnt work. Ive read that when a snake gets in a new home that this can happen (doubtful but im not 100% sure) Ill probably just take her to the vet in a few days if it continues, problem is its a two hour drive to the closest one. Anyone can give me a price range of what im looking at? with or with out medication? Thanks for your replies.

Re: A few serious questions

A friend just took his snake to the vets for an RI and it cost him 60$ (with meds, but I would go for the meds), but thats Canadian funny money :P
I would def buy a thermostat if you don't have one so you can stop playing with the temperatures.

hahah never heard that "canadian funny money". and yea if its even remotely close to that price range id take her and get the medicine no problem. I just want to be sure before i take a two hour drive, ill probably end up doing it just to have her checked out anyways. Where can i buy a Thermostat and how much are they? never owned one i can usually get temps to stay the same constantly with a timer. But if it helps with this Burm ill get one. Im going to post some pictures to, thanks again.

Re: A few serious questions

With thermostats you tend to get what you pay for, but not always. They range from 60-150ish, but you can get good used ones for cheap on kijiji or something.
