Savus!

I'd like to introduce my breeding pair of Savu pythons (Liasis savuensis). I was fortunate enough to find this pair from a good friend of mine, and they are great little snakes. They are little devils in their cages, but once out they're docile and curious. My female, Freckles, is noticeably girthier and has a nice rusty red background. My male, McLovin', is a more steel gray with light and dark speckles.
McLovin' got his name because (1) I am a huge fan of Superbad, and (2) the first night I had them they were both in quarantine in separate 10-gallon tanks with screen clips. I woke up the next morning, and somehow they'd both gotten out, only to go at it in the middle of the floor in the quarantine room! Most snakes hide when they get out, not go to town with a little sumthin' sumthin' in the center of the room. I figured McLovin' was quite the stud and the name was appropriate, lol.

The only pictures I have right now are of them in their deli cups on the way home from the show. As much as I love these guys, I have had them for months and months and never got around to getting better pics. I promise some better ones tonight.

Anyway, here they are. The first two are McLovin' and the last one is Freckles.

Re: Savus!

LOL! That's one of the best naming stories I've heard. Guess you don't require any breeding well-wishes with these two.

Re: Savus!

I guess not. I was not expecting them to be so, ahem..amorous. After they cleared quarantine, I put them together and they are still in with each other. If nothing more happens, they'll be separated in spring. But you never know. At least I know McLovin' knows his way around the ladies, lmao!

Honestly, with recent problems I've had, I wouldn't be upset if they don't produce this year, but they'd been in together before any of the problems arose, so I didn't see the point in separating them.

Re: Savus!

This is another python often overlooked and a great addition to your collection, not a large python(5ft) and normally not inclined to bite if handled gently. Although may empty its musk glands if troubled. The eyes of these animals are quite spectacular. Humidity requirements needed are not as high as the more prone to bite and related water pythons( fuscus, mackloti) a really interesting species to own.
Its to be hoped this year is better than last for you my friend, and with the collection you maintain and the dedication you show, good times lie ahead

Re: Savus!

Thanks, guys. They really are incredible little pythons. They are about 3.5-4 feet long, with Freckles being of noticeably heavier build than McLovin'.
I'm honestly not much worried about whether they produce this year or not. I will be trying for it next season though. I have a Stimson's female about to pop. Should be another 2 weeks or so until she lays, so I'm looking forward to that this season.

I absolutely adore Savus' eyes- they are an almost white silver and very striking against the dark heads. They also are alert pythons and watch me when I come into the room in defense "s" posture. They are little demons inside the cages, but once they are hooked and realize they're not being fed they are quite personable and docile. I didn't get around to getting more pics last night because my big Burmese had made a huge mess in his cage and required a lengthy tub soak, but I will try for pics of the Savs tonight.

Re: Savus!

Gorgeous snakes Kim! I'd love to see some close ups of those beautiful eyes you and pythonman described (I can kind of tell from the images).
