is it to late to register exotic pets and who do i register with in surrey bc?
I was wondering if it is to late to register my exotic pets. i know it said as of april 1 2010,Are all people who didnt register now supposed to stay underground? and what about the pets that are not registered. are people to just leave them in a bush some where or in the local parks? I cant find out where to bring unregistered pets or where or with who i need to register with.do it I have read so many newspaper and links n blogs saying their is a law changed and need registry and what will happen if you dont register and fines and jail time... but nothing like i said.... you would think it would tell you somewhere to register, who to call or what the group is called i register with or what the list of species are? or what steps to make now?
do i call the local spca or somthing? just had the question asked by a friend the other day and after looking for hours now i cant answere him. which makes me thing their is more of us out their in the same boat, maybe yall can shed some light on this topic and aswere these questions.Thx Dave

Re: is it to late to register exotic pets and who do i register with in surrey bc?
oh i should state when i said leave them in a park or in a bush, I DONT MEAN DO THIS > NEVER EVER DO THIS!!!. im just saying with a lack of info and options the govt. or people making laws this is what "Clearly an Idiots with no heart"or buisiness owning any pets of any sort would do and do chose to do all the time which is very sad and frustrating for people who do love herping and are paying the price for. I was just thinking about this point and figured i should come on and make this clear first before people read it and get the wrong impression .. thx

I call your local spca or police department or court house. one of them three should have someone who could help you.

Re: is it to late to register exotic pets and who do i register with in surrey bc?
freebody watch how you play it mate,i could be wrong but im sure it was your country i read of a vet who had been trying to get a license for a lizard he had.or it had been handed into him as the owner couldnt get one.im pretty sure the policy was what you did not have a license for had to be euthinised.
i really hope my memorys playing up but im sure i read this.the poor vet had went through all the proper channels but red tape was holding the license up.meantime the deadline for the poor lizard was getting close.im sure it made the media over your way and i may have read the story.it may even have been on this forum.i'll do my best to get my crazy brain to remember.as said i might be wrong.im just scared you do what you think is the right, honest and decent thing to do and the authoritys do something rash with your reptiles.
i hope im wrong and you get things sorted out mate.
all the best
shaun

Join up over at BCRC BC Reptile Club • Index page & they will be able to help as it is the "local" provincial club there. Their show/sale is also coming up right away June 12 & 13 in Abbotsford & there will be folks there that can help give you some guidance, Mark

Re: is it to late to register exotic pets and who do i register with in surrey bc?
At the expo this weekend i spoke with the guy that actually worked hand and hand with the govt to negotiate the finall law change. His name is David Chan from Exotic Serpents.com we spoke about the law change for about 15-20 min or so which is pretty long with all the sales he must have missed due to chattin with me, he was a very nice guy and showed a deep love of exotics and doing what he can to help us all. he said in canada regarding resitration and banned species, you are still able to register snakes that are over 9 feet ie 3 meters. you dont need to register a snake until it is 9 feet because some snakes dont ever grow 9 feet even know they are boa or python, some do some dont.we pretty much know which we will need to rgister but the government had no intensions of try to learn as much as we do so they just negotiated a rounded figure of any snake over 9 feet from what i understand, as for nile monitors they are outright banned, not sure the entire list of my head but if anyone who ever reads this wants to know more hes gave me his card and said check out the website hes got links somwhere, i have not had time to check it out but i this is what i was told.. hope this helps someone. Ya Daves a good guy.
There are multiple threads/links up on the BCRC site as that all is a big part of the reason why it was formed, Mark
