Unhappy feeding issues

We recently got a female red tail boa 1 week ago. she's about 2 months old. We tried feeding her 2 days after we got her with no such luck, then we tried again 5 days later. She still is not eating. Our male is doing very well... He never passes up food but we had him before she came along. We are feeding her small feeder mice that have been freshly killed before each feeding. Nothing seems to be working. What do you suggest?

Re: feeding issues

are they in the same tank? be specific as to your tank, humidity, temp, what it was eating before u got it.. when it last ate.. any medical issues.. has it gone to the bathroom yet.. have you been handling it... where is the tank located in your house?

-- check animal for signs of health problems, then just put it in its tank, and do not pick it up, at all for a week.. no handling. and keep the tank in a low traffic area.. if it doesnt feed after 5 days.. pm me, and i will give u more things to do, im currently having the same problem as i just picked myself up a 1 month old baby boa, and it also refuses to eat.

I agree with the above. Just don't handle the animal for a week and aslong as your set up is fine the snake should eat within a week. If it's still not eating then, try an adult feeder mouse. Sometimes it's just a larger meal they want.

Re: feeding issues

snake will eat when its hungry.
just let it relax for a bit and build up an appetite and try in 2-4 weeks i bet it will take it. dont worry yourself if the snake doesnt eat for some period of time. they dont need food every week and sometimes feeding on a regular schedule will put them off food. i feed my snakes every 7-20 days.. it all depends, and they are all seeming very happy and getting huge.

Re: feeding issues

Thank you all for your help! We finnally did get her to eat the day after our last failed attept. My boyfriend put her in a large tub and left her in there with the dead mouse for a while. After about 20 min. He went back in there and dangled the mouse with the tongs and then she got it. I guess all she really needed was some quiet alone time. So now I have a happy FULL little girl! Thanx agian!!!
