Re: snake shedding

NO the snake will shed when it is ready. Zero reason to take it to the vet. even if it was in shed & having a bad one zero reason to take it to the vet. Give it time when it is ready to shed it will shed, Mark

Re: snake shedding

Hello, my name is Alin, I`m new on this forum.

When the snake is little he will shed often, but he will do it when he trusts the environment. The first signs you can see: on his ,,back,, the black/white lines will be blurry. After that the color of his skin will be darker.

The entire shed process will be not more than 2 weeks.

Take care,
Alin

Snakes shed as they grow when its required. It has nothing to do with "trusting the enviroment" LOL Mark

Re: snake shedding

It has something to do with this story.
Don`t tell me that if you bring a snake in a new terrarium, it will shed, eat, and say hello from the first day.
Probably it will stay hidden until he feels well in the new ,,world,,. Sometimes it will stay under the ground, or just simple under the rocks.

So just don`t tell me that it has nothing to do with trusting the enviroment. Read the entire article first.

Re: snake shedding

Its nice that you have now owned a Cornsnake for about a month, but a new enviroment really has nothing to do with the shed cycle of a snake. If the new enviroment is not humid enough it will have issues shedding maybe, but it will shed when its time to shed no matter where it is located. I have kept literally 1,000s of snakes & have had them shed in all types of new enviroments such as delicups at shows, in bags on airplanes, in enclosures within the first few minutes after entering, in my hands etc. etc. They shed when its time to shed As for eating, handling etc. you are correct that they do need time to settle in properly & a new enviroment will affect those things, but it has nothing to do with them shedding. They shed when its time to shed reguardless of where they are at & how long they have been there. Cheers Mark

Re: snake shedding

OK Mark. I didn`t knew this. I put my point of view, based on the experience that I have with my snake.
Did the autorities know that you were travelling with snakes?

What snakes do you have now?

Re: snake shedding

I have shipped snakes via airline many times & the proper channels were taken everytime (ie: live animal airline bookings) & have driven with snakes multiple times. The "autorities" have nothing to do with transporting snakes unless there is an International border involved, then the appropriate paperwork/inspections would have to be aquired/arranged prior. I currently keep only Aussie Pythons & N.A. Colubrids.
Pythons - Blackheads, Womas, Diamonds, Jungle Carpets, Coastal Carpets, IJs, Bredli, Jaguars & other hybrids.
Colubrids - Corns, CKs, Florida Kings, Leusistic Texas Rats, Eastern Indigos, Graybands, Junglecorns & various other Hybrids.

I think thats it, I have kept/bred many other various Colubrids in the past 9 years as well, the collections always changing. Cheers Mark
