Komodo Dragon
I got an opportunity to shoot this little fellow today at the LPZ. I pretty much screwed up the whole days shoot trusting JPEG to render sharp images and it just didn't happen but I just had to share this crap shot. I'll go back in the next week or so and try to get it right...

Raindog,
What camera are you using? How many mega pixels? I use a Nikon D100 with 6.1 mega pixels. I use ACDSee to format from the Raw data image to high resolution jpegs.

Looks to have adequate sharpness to me.
Photos from digital cameras need to be sharpened, either in camera or at the post-processing stage.

I use a D70 and shoot strictly raw. On this day however, I forgot my backup and had to switch over to jpeg in order to have enough space.
The few raw images that I took needed little or no sharpening while the jpegs that didn't find their way into the recycle bin needed a lot of work.
Here are two 100% crops with no post processing, one shot in raw, the other in jpeg.

unlike the others here I agree with you, judging by the other pictures and knowing what digital cameras can do Im sure you could have done better.
but still it's an awesome picture, just not the best.
