Are Pines known to fast?

Well, I have a Northern Pine. He is about 4ft or so long and I keep the temps at 76-85 on the warmer end. Humidity is runs at 40-44%. He was eating great for me in the 3 months I've had him, even after sheds. He shed for me again 4 days ago, but is unwilling to accept any food, lol. I bumped up his feeding to a weanling rat, which he has taken 1 for me, before the shed. He wieghs 225g.

I'm not worried, just wondering like Balls, if they go through periodic fasts. Since I can't find anything bout that in care sheets. And there is no known books on pits that I'm aware of.

Any help or thoughts or suggestions would be awesome.

I can't address pines specifically, but suspect they are a lot like other pits - and our male bullsnake fasted regularly in the spring when he was cruising for girls instead of rodents. Would last until April or May when he finally gave up and went back to eating.

The increased meal size you just gave may be a factor too - that size meal may easily last him 2-3 weeks and he may not be hungry yet - is he cruising around the tank - if so, and he is refusing food - likely he is just looking for a female.

Mary-
Yes, he was crusing around like a mad man for a week and refusing food. Never crossed my mind he was looking for a female, being he's still so young.

I will try and offer rat pups and see how he takes to that. Thank you for the response and all the help in the past with his setup Apperiate it.

Most pits fast every now and then...nothing like a ball though, much shorter fasts.
