Thumbs down Carnie giving out live green igs as prizes

At the York County Fair in South Carolina, there's one of those nasty games where you lob ping pong balls at goldfish bowls. If you bop the fish on the head, both you and the fish are losers. If you manage to "ring" the bowl by skating the ball along the rim, you take home a green iguana.

A green iguana kept outdoors in temps way too low with no heating of any kind. Probably fed on lettuce, with MAYBE a carrot thrown in.

If this kind of thing works on your temper as it does on mine, please consider calling or writing York County. Their website has a link to the local SPCA chapter where you can report animal abuse.

When I called I merely got an answering machine but I will try again in a little while.

Thank you to those who called!! I just got off the phone with an animal control officer who is going to swing by the fair to investigate, and she is authorized to confiscate the animals if conditions are as bad as I've heard they are.

I volunteered to take the igs if their local SPCA chapter isn't equipped to house reptiles. Normally I don' like shipping tropical animals in such cold weather but since they've already been exposed to way too much I'm sure one more night of cold and then a decent home are in their best interest.

I rescued an Iguana from a fair in NC last night. On my way to the store right now to buy some food for him. I felt so sorry for them, I wanted to take them all home but I couldn't.

What county? Maybe I can find the local Animal Control or SPCA numbers there and get them all confiscated.
