still born

One of my eggs hatched sometime on the weekend. I was expecting the clutch mate to hatch sometime this morning. I noticed the egg was soft but I thought nothing of it. After closer inspection I decided to slit the egg open. I thought it was struggling and needed help but the little guy was dead. It appears his yok sac had ruptured?I really have no idea why it was still born. Any thoughts?

Cresteds don't usually have much of a yolk sack at all by the time they are ready to hatch, so it sounds like something wasn't right in the first place. It's possible it just ruptured when you slit the egg. I'm really not a big fan of sliceing eggs, but if you do it, do it quickly because there is a good chance you will damage something... especially coming in from the top. (manual extraction is also advisable in you're going to cut. afterall, what's another invasive procedure if you're already warmed up?)

I opened it from the side, and peeled away the egg, it was clear it was dead maybe it was born weak and couldn't get out?
