what kind of snake?

I was interested in getting a black Mexican Kingsnake that my nearest petco had but they sold. Now they got in a snake that has alternating black and white bands along its body but they didn't lable it.

Probably a California Kingsnake. Similar to the Mexican Black Kingsnake in a lot of way and closely related.

Cal King....

Mexican Black...

Sounds like a 50/50 Cal King. Ask the employees at the store.

at **** that takes an hour in the reptile sections. No service in the reptile area.

(*Just an FYI: I removed the store name to avoid possible problems for Ssnakess.com and/or Jeff. Posting store and breeder names with negative feedback isn't allowed.

I would not buy a herp form **** anyway because of their husbandry, lack of knowledge, misinformation given, and prices 3 times market value. Plus i know their herp supplier and theya re notorious for bad animals. At least here in the South.

Buying an animal or a TV, that would raise a flag in my mind whether I would want to do business there or not(probably not). Those are commonly kept snakes, and there's loads of breeders out there selling the same animals(probably in better condition), for way cheaper, and are willing to take time to talk to you about care etc.

(* Edited to remove store name - same reasons as in above posts.

actually I've found at "that store" they are cheaper than ones in other stores and do ok. I have looked at online breeders but they are all so expensive and there aren't many pet stores in my area and not much selection for herps.

it is well worth it to get it from a breeder I wouldn't get a reptile from "that store" EVER no matter how "clean it looks".

Thanks Stav. Mex Blacks are hard to photograph... at least for a person with my skills!

Anyway encee, I also put my vote in the "breeder" hat. You WILL end up getting a healthier animal. And I don't see how it could cost you more than a pet shop... at least compared to the prices in my town.

Keep searching. This is an animal that you could have for 10 or 15 years. Don't skimp out on spending $30 extra to get the snake you really want.
