Help me find a Boxy
Ok, Wu-gwei your pics of your boxies have done it. I can tolerate the mental abuse no more. I'm putting my foot down and ending this torture.
I want a box turtle! I looked around and did alot of reading. I want an eastern Box with red shell and legs, like yours is. I've seen yellow and brown ones but I like the bright red ones that look like a redfoot. Does anyone on here have a red Eastern they would part with or know of someone who breeds/keeps them near sask/alb? I'm officially looking now.
Also, I read about hibernating box turtles. Now I took the Redfoot in because I loved him and I knew redfoot enjoyed humid tropical conditions and didn't have to be hibernated. My Russian has had a sickness before hibernation last and this year, so no long sleep for her. I'm VERY scetched out about this whole hibernating thing. Keeping my box turtle in my fridge crisper or an insulated box outside really weirds me out. Next year I'll have to learn for my Russian's sake, but is there species of box turtle that are from more tropical regions and don't require hibernating.
This is a new area of turtle keeping for me so bare with me.
Cheers,
Garrett

Gulf Coast box turtles do not hibernate. They are also the largest of the box turtles, and the most ougoing and friendly. But they are harder to find than the ornates, 3 toes, and even easterns.

Sorry.. buddy for getting to fixated on boxies. lol
If you have a garage that does not freeze over (gauranteed) and stays consistently around 5-10C, it would be good a good place to hibernate turtles. You don't NEED to hibernate (brumate) a box turtle.
Cheers,
JJ

Thanks for all the replies. Great link Linds, helped alot!! As for you Wu-Gwei, I haven't forgiven you yet. It's your fault that I want one now because of your pics. That was just mean.
'me whispers, PM me some more pics '
I'm gonna take a drive to Scales Zoo in Leader to see Ryan and Shiela, they have a few boxies for sale. When I get time to go see them I'll let you know what I get. I probably won't leave without a turtle or tort of some kind. lol
